Cape Smokey by Helicopter: An Epic Cape Breton Elopement ::: Kaitlyn & Justin
I’ll admit it—I’ve dropped the ball on blog posts lately. But how could I not share this one? I'm catching up on posting recent work, so stay tuned for more.
When I was asked to shoot this helicopter elopement in Cape Breton, I couldn’t stop picturing the conversation that might’ve started it all. I imagine Justin saying, “Hey baby, wanna elope? Let’s take a helicopter to the top of Cape Smokey and do it there.”
Needless to say, I was all in.
Weddings are always awesome, but when you add a helicopter ride to a mountaintop? That’s next-level. Huge thanks to Breton Air for making the flight part of the day unforgettable. If you ever find yourself needing a helicopter in Cape Breton, they’ve got you covered.
Elopements have seriously evolved over the years. I used to shoot a few simple ones here and there, but these days, couples are turning their elopements into full-blown experiences—and I am here for it.
The day started at The Keltic Lodge in the Highlands. We got some shots there and around The Highland Links, and then it was lift-off time. Vows on top of the mountain, a helicopter ride where we spotted a bunch of moose, and views over the Cape Breton Highlands that were nothing short of unreal. The landscape of this island is wild, and if you ever get the chance to see it from above, take it.
A big shoutout to East Coast Pop-Up Weddings for bringing this all together and making it feel effortless. Sarah Anderson, as always, was incredible to work with. Her team knows how to create something beautiful, intimate, and unforgettable.
Thanks so much for trusting me, Kaitkyn and Justin—you guys rock.
